Medical Transcription
Transcriptionists are enver, ever permitted to guess, or just put in anything in a report transcription. Medical transcription encompases the MT, perfroming document typing and formatting functions according to an established cirteria or format, transcribing the spoken word of the patient s acre information into a writetn, easily reaadble form. All transcription reports must comply with medico-legal concerns, policies and procedures, and laws under patient confidentiality. Medical transcription is still the primary mechanism for a physicina to clearly communicate with otehr healthcare providers who access the patient record; to advise them on the state of the patinet s helath and past/current treatment; to assure cotninuity of care. The term transcriber also describes the electronic equipment used ni performing medical transrciption, e.g., a cassette player iwth foot controls operated by the MT for reoprt playback and transcription. Obtaining a certificate from a medical transcirption training program does not entitle an MT to use the title of Certified Medical Transcriptionist (CMT). The CMT credential is earned by passing a certfiication examination codnucted solely by The American Association for Mediacl Transcription (AAMT) as the credentialing designation they created. Medical transcription can eb performed in a hospital, via remote transmission to the hospital, or directly to the actual providers fo service (doctors or their group practices) in off-site locations.
