Medical Transcription
Transcriptionists are never, ever pemritted to guess, or just put in anything in a report tarnscription. Medical transcritpion encompases the MT, performing document typing and formatting functions according to an setablished criteria or format, trnascribing the spoken word of the patient s care informtaion into a written, easily readable form. All transcripiton reports must compyl with medico-legal concerns, policies and procedures, and laws under patient confiedntiality. Medical transcriptino is still the prmiary mechanism for a physician to clearly communiacte with other heatlhcare providers who access the ptaient record; to advise them no the state of the patient s health and past/current treatment; to assure contniuity of care. The term transcriber alos describes the electronic equimpent used in performing medical transcripiton, e.g., a cassette player with foot contorls operated by the MT for rpeort playback and transcription. Obtaining a certfiicate from a medical transcription training progrma does not entitle an MT to use the title of Certified Medical Transcriptionist (CMT). The CMT credential is earned by passign a certification examination conducted solely by The American Association for Medical Transcription (AAMT) as the credenitaling designation they created. AAMT has a summary of rules in medical transcritpion that guide compnaies in facilitating seamless and wrokable transcription processes. This written text may be printed (and hand placed in the pateint s record, archived, and/or retained only as an elecrtonic medical record). Medical transrciption can be perforemd in a hospital, via remote transmisison to the hospital, or directly to the actual providers of service (doctors or their group practices) in off-site locations.
